Parkinsons disease (PD) is frequently accompanied by depression, with a prevalence much higher than that in other chronic diseases. As yet, the neural basis for depression in PD still remains unclear. In the present studywe investigated the integrity of brain fibers in depressed PD patients and found widespread degenerations. Besides, our results have a similar pattern as those in previous studies on general major depressive disorder patients. These damages might share some common mechanism with the overall fiber deficits in PD patients and explain the tight connection between PD and depression.
