We assessed normalized ADC in white matter in patients with idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (INPH), atrophic ventricular dilation, and in healthy volunteers to determine the degree of fluctuation of water molecules independently of the water amount. Normalized ADC in INPH were significantly higher than those in the control and atrophic ventricular dilation groups. Water amount independent analysis may render it possible to noninvasively obtain more detailed information than that provided by standard ADC measurement in suspected INPH, potentially facilitating the diagnosis of this disease.
