This preliminary study investigated the potential to use regional homogeneity (ReHo), a novel resting-state fMRI parameter to characterize the progression of Alzheimers Disease (AD). Six AD patients and nine age- and gender-matched healthy controls were recruited for comparison. For the regions of significant difference detected, average ReHo were calculated and correlated with AD patients MMSE scores. Compared with normal controls, AD patients showed decreased ReHo in right posterior cingulate/precuneus cortex and left inferior parietal lobe, which were positively correlated to the corresponding MMSE scores. ReHo shows the promise to reflect the cognitive decline in AD patients.
