For transcranial MR-guided focused ultrasound surgery in the brain, CT based imaging is used currently for correcting for distortions in the location and shape of the beams focus due to heterogeneities of the cranium. In this work we use high resolution UTE images and 3D ultrasound beam simulations to demonstrate the effect of additional anatomical features of the head (skin, subcutaneous fat, galea aponeurotica, marrow) on the location and intensity of the focal zone. A 2 mm on-axis shift and a 20% decrease in the focal intensity is estimated using information from the UTE images.
