In this study, we employed hippocampal seed-based network analysis approach and found distinct neural circuits were separately implicated in the effects of remitted geriatric depression (RGD) and apolipoprotein E (APOE) 4 allele, more importantly, the interactive effects of RGD and APOE4 allele were identified in prefrontal-temporal-occipital system, which are early targeted by Alzheimers disease progression. These findings indicated both previous depressive episode and APOE 4 allele as well as their combination could alter functional coupling of hippocampal network, which may play a critical role in the persistent cognitive impairment and the development of Alzheimers disease.
