BOLD fMRI usually employs EPI, which suffers from distortions caused by field inhomogeneity. Most correction methods rely on some form of reference data acquired at the start. Subject motion during the scan may invalidate this reference as distortion changes with head position. Ability to dynamically update correction parameters may therefore be beneficial.
